INFOline for December 18, 2015
Good morning, everyone. This is Eric Plas with the ABX Air INFOline for December 17, 2015.
Safety and Compliance
The first edition of the ABX Air Safety Connection newsletter was published this past Tuesday. This newsletter will be a quarterly publication going forward. The purpose of the Safety Connection is to keep all ABX Air employees up to date on our Safety Management Systems implementation and augment our forthcoming SMS training with examples of hazard identification, risk assessment, and use of controls.
Safety also recognizes and congratulates Alain Terzakis and Jean-Marie Personna who were the recipients of the 3rd Quarter ABX Air Safety Awards. Alain is the Manager of Flight Operations Control in Wilmington, and Jean-Marie is our International Line Maintenance Representative in Panama. Both were selected for recognition by ABX Air Safety Committee, endorsed by their supervisors, and approved by the Company President.

Charity Drive
The last few pledges are still being tallied, and we're very close to reaching our goal of raising $90,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, the United Way of Clinton County, and local food pantries. We've already surpassed last year by raising a total of $87,524 in donations and pledges. Thank you for your generosity!
Congratulations to the winner of our grand prize drawing, John Popovich, who has won two round-trip tickets to Europe courtesy of Delta Air Lines! Thank you for your pledge, John.
Thank you to everyone who played Santa Claus by donating toys and/or cash to make a needy child's holiday a little happier. Five huge boxes overflowing with gifts were donated to the Ho Ho Shop. Great job, everyone!
Our People
We have about a week remaining to our Christmas peak shipping season. It has been an extremely busy time. The planning that goes into peak touches all departments and over the years, the peak period has grown from a week or two prior to Christmas to now starting in November with our first peak tail in place on November 1. Making this happen takes a full plate of dedicated professionals working long hours as a team and everyone should be proud of their part in making it happen. It has been a challenging year for peak. Our on-time performance reliability has not been as high as we would like it to be and we need to finish this final week before Christmas strong and provide our customers with the highest levels of on-time performance possible. Thank you for your efforts, and on behalf of all of us in senior management here at ABX Air, please accept our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and holiday season to you and your loved ones.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you and Merry Christmas! Take care.

Other News
In the November issue of Air Cargo News, it was reported that the European Commission (EC) announced that it will not object to the planned merger of FEDEX and TNT. Although this was a significant hurdle, clearance still needs to be obtained from competition authorities in other countries. The EC’s assent is given much importance as it was the EC that put a stop to a similar merger between UPS and TNT in 2013. TNT executives are still looking to close the transaction in the first half of 2016.
In November, Deutsche Post DHL Group issued a press release to announce certain financial results that lay further important foundations for its long-term success. In the release, it was noted that Group revenue increased by 3.0% in third quarter of 2015 but EBIT was impacted by one-off effects. The Express division was able to continue its successful revenue and earnings development in the third quarter of 2015. Revenue climbed by 6.9% to EUR 3.3 billion. The main driver of the positive revenue development was the ongoing strong growth in international time definite (TDI) shipments, where volumes grew by 9.4% over the prior-year period. The continued good operating performance has been achieved despite currency headwinds and continuing significant investment in the air and road network.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you for all you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.
INFOline for November 19, 2015
Good afternoon, everyone. This is Steve Janasov with the ABX Air INFOline for November 19, 2015.
Safety
Each month the Safety Department, in coordination with APA Safety Committee members and functional area ABX management, assembles to conduct our monthly safety meetings. The Fatigue Focus Committee meets to review fatigue reports and discuss ways to better monitor, manage, and mitigate fatigue events experienced by our aircrews. The Flight Operations Quality Assurance program holds both a Monitoring Team meeting where our designated gatekeepers discuss FOQA events that have occurred during the past month and the Steering Committee meets to discuss actions taken in response to events and better ways to communicate FOQA program data and information to the pilot group and senior management. The Aviation Safety Action Program Events Review Committee, consisting of Flight Management, APA Safety and the FAA meets to discuss and process individual ASAP reports and monitor the aggregate for trends. Lastly, the ABX / APA Safety Committee convenes to discuss any new FAA issued InFOs (Information for Operators) and SAFOs (Safety Alerts for Operators) and review all General Safety Reports determining risk, root cause and the implementation of controls if required. This is also a forum where new safety issues can be introduced, discussed, tracked and documented. All of this is consistent with our Safety Management System implementation.
Compliance
On October 13, the Federal Aviation Administration published a National Policy Notice; Subject, Aviation Safety Action Program, Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program and the New Compliance Philosophy. There are several relevant changes that affect the ASAP and VDRP process, and more information concerning these changes will be forthcoming. One important note is that under this policy change, effective October 1, 2015, FAA Administrative Actions will no longer be processed for ERC-accepted ASAP reports and are no longer required for VDRP disclosures. The FAA's goal is that this change will increase safety reporting in consonance with SMS implementation.
Company News

Good afternoon, everyone. This is John Starkovich with the ABX Air INFOline for November 5, 2015.
Safety
Due to positive feedback from several groups, we have elected to keep the ABX SafetyLine newsletter a publication for sharing ASAP and FOQA safety information exclusively with our pilot group. Based on the implementation of our Safety Management System and our desire to promote our SMS, we will be distributing a separate quarterly SMS publication to the entire employee group to provide insight and information about our SMS Implementation Plan. We also will share examples of hazards identified through safety reporting, risk assessment, risk mitigation, SMS training, and other relevant information. We need your help in naming the publication and are holding a contest. The winner will be determined by myself and the executive staff, and will be selected without knowledge of the name of the submitter. Please email your entry to Elizabeth Habermehl, who will provide the selection team with the title submissions without names. The winner will receive 50 charity raffle tickets donated by the Safety department. The deadline for submissions will be 4:00 p.m. on November 24, with the charity drawing being held on December 8.

An article that appeared in the October 5 edition of Air Cargo News reported that DHL Express has said it is not too bothered about the potential takeover of TNT by FedEx as it concentrates on its own business. A spokesperson for DHL said it was "fairly ambivalent" about the takeover bid despite the European Commission's in-depth investigation into the deal due to competition concerns. The Commission initially had 90 working days to investigate the proposed acquisition but has now extended it by 30 days until January 13, 2016. The investigation is not expected to alter the timeline of the deal, which has a projected completion during the first half of next year.

In the September 24th edition of the Wilmington News Journal, it was announced that G&J Pepsi-Cola will be consolidating its regional distribution operations to Wilmington, Ohio per Clinton County Business and Economic Director Bret Dixon. G&J is a privately owned company consisting of seven franchises that distribute Pepsi-Cola products, according to its web site. Two of the existing distribution centers are located in Hillsboro and Chillicothe.
In the same article, Mr. Dixon recognized the efforts of our sister company AMES in recruiting US Air Force veterans who are experienced aircraft mechanics to the area. AMES is offering a two-week class to make them eligible to take the airframe and powerplant test to earn an A&P license to work at AMES. With the expansion of the AMES operation to the new 100,000 square foot hangar, its MRO business is growing with new customers like Delta as will its need for aircraft mechanics. Congratulations to AMES for this innovative idea.
The AMES Charity Golf Tournament in August 29 was a smashing success, raising more than $6,500 in contributions for the ATSG Charity Drive. Thank you to Jim Savastano, Bryan Dykes, Mike Fahrubel, and Rhonda Stevens for organizing it, and extra special thanks to everyone who enjoyed the day and gave from the heart.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you for all that you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.
INFOline for September 24, 2015
Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Bob Greene, Manager of Ground Operations, with the ABX Air INFOline for September 24, 2015.
Safety
The Safety Department welcomes Diane Hibbett as their new Supervisor of Internal Audits and Evaluation Program and SMS Coordinator. Diane was previously the Supervisor of Flight Operations Compliance. Diane possesses a Master’s Degree in Aviation Safety, and she brings a wealth of flight, dispatch, and aviation safety experience to her new position. Let’s all lend Diane our support as she helps us implement SMS at ABX.
Compliance
Earlier this month ABX Air submitted our Safety Management System Plan to our FAA certificate management team at East Michigan for acceptance. Along with the implementation plan we submitted our recently published SMS Manual as well as our long-standing Aircraft Mishap Response Plan and Internal Audit and Evaluation Program. We are pleased to report that the FAA has now designated both the Aircraft Mishap Response Plan and our Internal Audit and Evaluation Program as FAA-accepted documents. The Implementations Plan and SMS Manual are still under review. Once accepted, the SMS Manual will be published for all employees to review, and the SMS implementation process will begin in earnest.
ATSG News
In an announcement from Tianjin, China, during the Fourth Annual China Air Finance Development Summit held there, Okay Airlines, ATSG West Limited, Vipshop and others totaling five parties announced the establishment of an express air cargo joint venture serving multiple destinations within the Peoples Republic of China and surrounding countries. In addition to ATSG, the principal commercial partners in the venture include Okay Airlines, which was established in 2005 as China’s first private-sector airline and provides passenger and air cargo services within China, and Vipshop Holdings Ltd., a leading online discount retailer for brands in China.
The joint venture company will be named United Star Express Airlines Co. Ltd., will be established pending approval by related government parties, and plans to commence flight operations in mid-2016. The new airline will principally serve rapidly growing express air cargo demand driven by e-commerce growth in China and surrounding countries.
From 2010 through 2014, the express market has been growing at an average of 30% per year. The growth rate of China’s e-commerce markets exceeds that of the air express market. Therefore, United Star Express will provide third-party express and charter aircraft services that cover the country and surrounding Asia regions to domestic and international express companies.
Within the first year of its flight operations, United Star Express expects to have six small and midsize freighter aircraft, including Boeing 737, Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 aircraft, to provide safe, high quality, reliable domestic and international air cargo services.
Benefits
A new feature has been added to the Company-sponsored 401(k) plans. You may now designate your 401(k) beneficiaries by logging onto www.401k.com, selecting the Profile link, and then the Beneficiaries link. Every employee with a 401(k) balance should go online and update their beneficiary designations. You can name both primary and secondary beneficiaries. You also can name a family trust, charity, or your estate if that is your preference.
By updating your beneficiary information, you ensure that the plan administrator has your current and up-to-date beneficiary information. By having your designation online, you will have greater visibility of your named beneficiaries. It also makes it easier to update your designation when you have life events such as a marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child.
Many employees have not updated their designations since they first enrolled in the 401(k) plan. The Human Resources department will NOT be transferring your designation from the paper forms you completed in the past, so it is important that you enter your information soon. The online designation applies only to the 401(k) plans. Your beneficiary designations for your life insurance, AD&D coverage, and Profit Sharing Plan (if applicable) remain on paper in your personnel file. If you have any questions, please contact your Human Resources representative.
Our People
Finally, we have another employee anniversary for September, in addition to those announced earlier. Congratulations and thank you to ABX Air CEO Joe Hete with 35 years of service to the company.
That’s all the news for this week. Thank you for all you continue to do for our Company.
INFOline for September 10, 2015
Good afternoon, everyone. This is John Starkovich with the ABX Air INFOline for September 10, 2015.
Safety & Compliance
Last week, our Director of Safety Steve Janasov and our Manager of Aviation Safety Programs Todd Kramer travelled to the East Michigan Flight Standards District Office to deliver and brief the ABX Air Safety Management System Implementation Plan to our FAA Certificate Management Team members. This plan outlines the steps that ABX Air will take to ensure full implementation of SMS per Final Rule, Part 5. Included with the Implementation Plan was a Gap Analysis spreadsheet that details what needs to be documented and implemented to be compliant with each subpart and identifies the persons available and responsible for ensuring success with that requirement. We also presented a Milestone Chart that illustrates by quarter what will be accomplished to meet our goal of full implementation by second quarter of 2017. In addition, our Safety Management System Manual, Internal Audit and Evaluation Program, and our Aircraft Mishap Response Plan manuals were presented for FAA acceptance.
With some assistance from the folks in Information Technology, our IT group, the Safety Department has established a ‘Safety Portal’ where SMS documents such as the Implementation Plan, Gap Analysis, SMS Manual and other documents, forms, and training presentations reside for easy access. The portal was demonstrated to the FAA at the Implementation Plan presentation and will be reviewed again by our compliance managers at their September meeting. Look for more information concerning SMS implementation in future Safety Bulletins.
Company News
Our on-time service performance for DHL for the month of August, subject to verification, was 98.57%. Similarly, for the third quarter of 2015, we are at 98.31% on time performance to-date, all subject to verification. So far for the month of September, we are at 97.76%.
For the first time since 2009, ABX Air will again be performing regular flight service out of Wilmington, Ohio (ILN). AGS (Airborne Global Solutions) has entered into a contract to operate a small system moving cargo between domestic points. It begins on September 14, 2015, utilizing both ATSG carriers on a 7-day-per-week schedule. This system will begin by operating two B767-200 aircraft on routes out of Ontario, California (ONT) and Allentown, Pennsylvania (ABE) through Wilmington and expand a few weeks after initial start up to add B767-200 aircraft operating from Tampa, Florida (TPA) and Oakland, California (OAK). We are under a strict Non Disclosure Agreement with AGS's customer; therefore this business is being referred to as "Aerosmith." ABX will operate the ONT-ILN-ONT route beginning September 14 and the TPA-ILN-TPA route beginning September 28. LGSTX and AGS are handling the ground, limited sort, loading of airplanes, and the truck inbound and outbound activity here in ILN and also managing the out-base operations. We are very excited about this opportunity, and while this operation is currently being done on a short term contract, we are looking to do everything that we can to make it a success and have it extended and hopefully expanded over time.
Flu shots will be available at Wilmington Air Park (ILN) on Monday, Sept. 21 and again on Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Administration Building first floor conference room A (directly behind the Security desk) between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Dependents age 14 and over, as well as spouses, covered by the company-sponsored UnitedHealthcare (UHC) medical insurance also are eligible for the flu shot. Employees must bring their UHC insurance card and a completed copy of the attached health questions and informed consent form. (Supervisors will have access to these forms for their employees.) Forms also will be available on-site the day of the event. Employees at locations other than ILN may receive a flu shot at participating UHC pharmacies (where permitted by state law). Please log on to www.myuhc.com to find a participating pharmacy.
With Delta coming in as a new customer for AMES and the added flight operations out of ILN, folks are reminded that the airport’s security remains our responsibility to one another. As part of getting ready for aircraft ops at ILN, everyone should review and refresh their memories on the Air Park Policies and Procedures on the Wilmington Air Park page on ABXNet as well as the Security Awareness training. Just access the ABXNet and go to Employee Connections and then Wilmington Airpark and you will find both programs.

Friday, September 11 marks the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 Tragedy. Please take a private moment to reflect on those that perished that day and their families; the heroes including the police officers and the firefighters and all of the other individuals that helped; and also, recall how fortunate we are to live in this country that affords us the freedoms that we have in this country and a people with the patriotism, persistence, and resiliency to come back from such a disaster.

INFOline for August 27, 2015
Good afternoon, everyone. This is Phil Flowers with the ABX Air INFOline for August 27, 2015.
Safety
Congratulations to the 2nd Quarter Safety Award winners. Paul Schimanski and Andy Lawter from Maintenance Quality Control received awards for their efforts in preparing and participating in the IATA Operational Safety Audit that resulted in zero Findings or Observations in Maintenance. The IOSA is a very comprehensive five-day audit conducted by experienced IATA-approved auditors. Captain Matt Kluck from the Flight Department received the Safety Award for his efforts in researching and presenting information to outfit our aircraft with full-face oxygen masks. As a result, two companies have presented proposals to ABX Air and are under consideration.
These award winners received a commemorative crystal paperweight and a $50 gift card as a token of our appreciation as their actions exhibit the type of safety culture that our Safety Management System encourages.
Compliance
As published in the 14 CFR Part 5 Final Rule, the deadline for submitting the Safety Management System Implementation Plan is 9 September. Senior and compliance managers have assembled the Implementation Plan, which includes the SMS Manual, updated Safety Policy, and detailed Gap Analysis with Milestone Chart. We also will be submitting an updated Aircraft Mishap Response Plan and Internal Audit and Evaluation Program for FAA acceptance. The plan will be delivered during the 1st week of September. In addition, the Safety Department has begun publishing General Safety Bulletins to all employees to keep them informed about the status of our SMS implementation and the when’s and why’s of changes in safety.
Company News
Our on-time service performance for DHL to date for the month of August, subject to verification, is 98.78%. Similarly, for the third quarter of 2015, we are at 98.47% on time performance, all subject to verification.
Employee Anniversaries for September:
30 Years - Supervisor of Ramp Training Kyle Murphy and Manager of Systems Contingency Bill Henning
25 Years - Human Resources Coordinator Tina Reed
20 Years – First Officers Andrew Choos, Andrew Lynch, Edwin Haeuser, Gary Steubs, Martin Wilkins and Terry Ogilvie
10 Years - Line Maintenance Representative (LAX) Francisco Ruiz
Benefits
A new feature has been added to the Company-sponsored 401(k) plans – the Capital Accumulation Plan and the Pilots Investment Plan.
Code of Conduct and FCPA
Just a reminder that Friday, August 28 is the deadline to complete the Code of Conduct for Conducting Business of ATSG Companies (Code) and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) policies. Adobe Connect training is available to those with computer access at the following link: https://atsgtrain.atsginc.com/fcpaandcode2015. Employees must complete the mandatory combined training on the Code and FCPA no later than Friday, August 28, 2015. Please refer to ICOM:15-97 dated 8/5/2015 for more details.
Charity Drive
The next charity event is the AMES Golf Tournament being held at the Wilmington Elks golf course on Saturday, August 29. It’s a best ball, 4-person scramble, and there are plenty of awards and prizes. Lunch is provided. You may want to inquire about the trophies being awarded as I understand that they are not only unique in appearance but also in how they were made. Again, it is an opportunity for folks to have a good time, get to know co-workers in a non-work setting, and benefit our charities all at the same time. Even if you aren't golfing, you're still able to participate in the pick-a-prize and 50/50 raffles. Stop by the Elks between 8 a.m. and Noon on the 29th if you want raffle tickets.
Labor Day
In observance of Labor Day, ABX Air and ATSG offices will be closed Monday, September 7. Employees should plan to use a Paid Time Off (PTO) day unless they are designated by their supervisor to work that day. (Employees with insufficient PTO balance will receive the time off without pay at no occurrence; PTO balance will be applied unless an employee specifically requests otherwise or is not normally scheduled to work on Mondays.) Employees may review their available PTO balance on the Self Service web site ( MyABX.com/SelfService ) under the Personal menu. Depending on operational need, some individuals may be asked to work even if their area is scheduled off. Hourly and non-exempt employees required to work on the holiday will be paid an additional halftime holiday premium for the hours worked that day (midnight to midnight). Employees should discuss any questions about their schedules with their supervisor.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you for all you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.
INFOline for August 13, 2015
Good afternoon, everyone. This is John Starkovich with the ABX Air INFOline for August 13, 2015.
Safety
Just as a reminder that folks need to remain engaged in the Occupational Health and Safety Training that’s being conducted using Adobe Connect. We have done a good job of ensuring 100% employee compliance, so please keep up the good work. With respect to the SMS Program, ABX Air will be submitting our Safety Management Plan to the FAA for acceptance by August's end. The Part 5 Final rule specifies that the Implementation Plan and Gap Analysis be submitted for acceptance not later than September 9. The SMS training curriculum for non-management employees has been completed and has been submitted to the FAA for review. This training will also be conducted and tracked using Adobe Connect.
Compliance
Manager of Ground Operations Compliance and Training Bob Greene was recently awarded the ABX Air Silver Wings of Excellence for having completed a fifth consecutive IOSA Audit without a single Finding or Observation by the visiting IOSA Audit Team in the Ground Ops, Cargo and Security areas. This means three different teams of auditors have reviewed the procedures and documentation that Bob and his folks in the Ground department have developed over time and have found that they meet IATA IOSA requirements. Congratulations to Bob and everyone on the Ground Department team for their efforts and success.
Company News
Our on-time service performance for DHL for the month of August, subject to verification, is 98.81%. Similarly, for the third quarter of 2015, we are at 98.39% on time performance, all subject to verification.
Our sister company AMES has been selected by Delta through a competitive bid process to do airframe maintenance services (C-checks) on Delta's fleet of more than 80 Boeing 717 aircraft. The 5-year arrangement is expected to be finalized and start in the 4th quarter and as soon as October for the first line of work. By December, three simultaneous lines are projected to be in place for the Delta work. This is an extremely significant award of business to AMES in addition to its existing group of customers. Congratulations to AMES.
During the ATSG conference call with investors last week covering 2nd Quarter results, it was announced that DHL is slated to dry lease two more 767-300’s from our sister company CAM in the 4th quarter. Initial indications are that the 300’s will be placed on routes that are in need of increased capacity within the DHL system. The aircraft are former Qantas planes that are in the process of being converted from a passenger configuration to freighters by IAI for CAM.
The 3rd Annual Past & The Furious Charity Car, Truck & Bike Show was held this past Saturday under sunny skies here at Wilmington Air Park (ILN). Turnout was great and, while the numbers are not final, approximately $5,000 was raised for various charities supported by the ATSG Charity Drive. Thank you to everyone that attended. Also, our sincere thanks and appreciation to all that contributed time and effort in putting the show together and its successful operation. The Past & The Furious Car show hats/visors are available for sale. Contact Tracey Dykes, Judy Branham, or Rhonda Stevens for yours today.
August 14 is the deadline to sign up. There remains room for one (1) more team, and then we are full unless someone drops out. Even if you ARE NOT golfing, anyone is still able to participate in the pick-a-prize and 50/50 raffles. Stop by the Elks between 8 a.m. and Noon on the 29th if you want raffle tickets.
The 3rd quarter Biggest Loser Challenge is half over now. The six teams currently in the challenge have lost a combined weight loss of over 108 lbs. in 5 weeks. So participating ATSG employees as a group have lost over 1,130 pounds from Jan. 1, 2015 to Aug. 11, 2015! Great job to all of our participants in the challenges. Employees who participate in the Biggest Loser Challenge and all who complete the challenge must lose minimum of 5 lb for eligibility of discount on their health insurance premium for the following quarter's company Healthy Directions Wellness Program. This is not an additional discount for health premiums, but another way to qualify for a discount for the given quarter's health premiums. The sign-up for next quarter's challenge will take place in mid-September, and we'll have more details then.
Just a reminder that August 28 is the deadline to complete the Code of Conduct for Conducting Business of ATSG Companies (Code) and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) policies. Adobe Connect training is available to those with computer access at the following link: https://atsgtrain.atsginc.com/fcpaandcode2015. The August 7 edition of CargoFacts Update reported in part that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) air freight market analysis for June 2015 showed an overall 1.2% year-over-year increase in worldwide cargo traffic (in freight tonne kilometers flown). The overall 1.2% gain in June was driven by a 1.4% increase in international traffic, while domestic traffic in the month was flat with June 2014. For the first half of 2015, IATA said worldwide air cargo traffic was up 3.5%, led by 3.9% growth in international traffic, while domestic traffic was up just 0.7%.

INFOline for July 31, 2015
Hello, this is Robert Boja with the ABX Air INFOline for July 31, 2015. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer.
Safety
As my first INFOline I would like to say a few things regarding safety and how it is integral to the success of the airline. Aviation has inherent risks, and its up to all of us to mitigate those risks. Safety policies are the number one reference source to do exactly that. Safety policies are not guidelines; they are absolutes required to operate an airline efficiently and without incident. Follow the Safety policies, period. Our safety team is one of the best in the business and does an outstanding job. Without a strong safety culture we are certainly destined to failure. Successful people practice and embrace safe practices; unsuccessful ones do not and dismiss even common sense safety.
A word from Steve Janasov:
Our Safety Management System training development resulted in five defined groups that will receive different levels of training. The groups include Senior Management, Safety Department, Line Management, Company Employees, and Contractor/Vendors. For the Senior Management group, much of the training has already been completed by attendance of MITRE (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research) or Transportation Safety Institute courseware. The Company employee training module has been submitted to our Certificate Management Team for acceptance. Once accepted, it will be formatted as an Adobe Connect training module and issued to company level employees. It’s imperative that every employee understand their role in supporting our Safety Management System.
Compliance
ABX will be submitting our Safety Management System Implementation Plan to our Certificate Management Team in August. This plan includes a Gap Analysis that outlines the current level of compliance with all tenants of SMS and establishes a timeline and responsible parties to fully implement an FAA-accepted SMS. It also outlines how we will incorporate existing safety programs such as our Aviation Safety Action Program, Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System, and our Flight Operations Quality Assurance Program. The Implementation Plan and the Safety Management System Manual will be placed on the ABXnet for all employees to review concurrent with our submission to the FAA.
Our People
We celebrate 20-year anniversaries this month for First Officers John Liebenow, Tom Nagle, and Craig Shuholm. Congratulations and a warm thank you for your service here at ABX.
Don't forget about the Past and Furious III car show being held on Saturday, August 8 at the old Welcome Center parking Lot. Admission and parking are free.
Performance
Results thus far for on-time performance in July stands at 98.68%, and the June result was 98.50%. Second quarter results came in at 98.36%. I'm certain everyone is working hard to achieve the best on-time performance we can--an admirable goal--but we can do better truly. Focusing on controlling the controllable in your area is all anyone will ask of you. From time to time we all become distracted and lose that focus, but now more than ever in your careers we need to stay focused on our jobs. We all are required to make this work, and just as every piece of a watch is needed to make it work, we rely on each of you to make this work in the collective sense. We really can do this!
Industry Update
The Company will release its second quarter 2015 financial results on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, after the stock market closes. ATSG has announced that it will host an investor conference call to review its financial results for the second quarter which ended on June 30, 2015, on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Saving time. On the day of the conference call, participants should dial 888-895-5479 and international participants should dial 847-619-6250 ten minutes before the scheduled start of the call and ask for conference pass code 40193425. A replay of the conference call will be available by phone on August 6, 2015 beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing through Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 888-843-7419 (international callers 630-652-3042), use pass code 40193425#.
The Cargo Airline Association which represents all the major all cargo carriers including ABX is working an important issue right now. The issue involves legislation to restrict the carriage of Lithium batteries in mass quantities on passenger aircraft and limit such shipments on all cargo aircraft. The association feels the legislation is unfounded and lacks scientific empirical data to support the changes. More to come later this summer regarding this issue, but if successful it will impact the industry.
Other News & Information
Anyone traveling to DHL should be aware of road construction to the DHL facility, which could impact your arrival time. Construction will be ongoing for a few months, so leave a little earlier to plan for the detours. Follow the signs; it is self explanatory, but allow the extra time.
That is all the news we have for this week. Thank you for your time and all that you do for our Company.

Industry News
In industry news, The Wall Street Journal recently reported the largest U.S. logistic companies are preparing for a boom in the spending on specialty drugs that require temperature-controlled shipping by investing in so-called cold chain infrastructure. UPS announced it is building a health care distribution center in the Netherlands, and DHL has invested heavily in staff, warehouses, and equipment for temperature-controlled shipments over the last two years. DHL forecasts the spending on specialty drugs that require cold chain shipping will increase to $192 billion by 2016, which is an increase of 121% since 2012. DHL also forecasts the market to double again to over $400 billion by 2020.
These specialty drugs are bringing new treatment options for a variety of diseases such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, and viral diseases. The complete article on the logistic industry’s response to the cold chain shipping trend can be found in the June 18 edition of The Wall Street Journal.
Preliminary On-Time Service Results
The preliminary on-time service result for June is 98.50%, and the preliminary on-time service for the full 2nd quarter is 98.36%. Both numbers are subject to final verification.

INFOline for June 18, 2015
Hello, this is Jeff Walling, Director of Human Resources, with the ABX Air INFOLine for Thursday, June 18, 2015.
Safety & Compliance
The winners of the inaugural ABX Air Safety Award have been announced. Congratulations to Capt. Phil Myers and Los Angeles Line Maintenance Representative William Chan. Capt. Myers was recognized for his efforts to ensure that the ABX 10-10 page revision process is formalized and the pages remain updated and accurate. ABX Chief Pilot Dean Cook noted that Capt. Myers is a dedicated and hardworking advocate for safety. William Chan was nominated by a flight crewmember for managing multiple aircraft problems in a very hectic environment. Even with the increased pressure, he caught and corrected a previously incorrect MEL deferral. His supervisor noted that his work practices are regularly exceptional in the area of safety.
The ABX Safety Award is a new quarterly award designed to recognize and reward exceptional contributions to safety. The award is part of the expansion and implementation of our Safety Management System and is designed to help promote and improve our safety culture.
Last week, a five-person team of auditors completed their on-site inspection for the biennial IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). Our IOSA certification is due for renewal in October 2015. IOSA is the benchmark for global safety management in airlines. The IOSA program is the internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline.
The next step in the audit process is for the audit team to prepare their report to management including any concerns that they may have. Management will be given an opportunity to address these concerns and make any corrections before the certification renewal can be completed in October. We would like to thank every employee involved for their efforts in the audit preparation in this important certification.

It is well deserved. And on behalf of all of us at ABX Air, we extend our thanks and appreciation to Gary Stover and his LGSTX group. They do a wonderful job for us, and it is great working with them.
Other News
In a press release issued on May 29, DHL announced it is investing $108 million to expand its Americas hub facility at the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky airport (CVG) to meet the demands of continued growth in international e-commerce and global trade. The expansion will provide more gates to accommodate additional aircraft, warehouse space, and new equipment to provide more capacity for sorting shipments as well as unloading and reloading planes. With this new investment, DHL will have invested $280 million in the CVG hub and also increased staffing from 1,600 in late 2009 to approximately 2,000 currently. "This multi-million dollar investment underscores the DHL commitment to the U.S. market and the integral role that our hub here plays in connecting the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky region to our vast global network," said Stephen Fenwick, CEO of DHL Express Americas.
In a May 27 press release it was announced that despite a challenging market and competitive environment, as well as significant investments in the long-term success of the company, the Deutsche Post DHL Group still expects that 2015 will be another year of growth. "We increased both revenue and operating profit once again in 2014. And we managed to do this despite only modest growth of the world economy," CEO Frank Appel said to shareholders. The current financial year marks a transition from the successful Strategy 2015 to the new Strategy 2020 based on three pillars: a focus on existing strengths, enhanced quality through improved interconnectedness, and expansion through new growth drivers. The wide-ranging internal changes and investments in the future will temper the group’s earnings gains in the current year. CEO Appel was satisfied with the company’s economic performance in financial year 2014. Group revenue climbed 3.1% year-on-year, with all four divisions contributing to the rise. Consolidated revenue grew organically by 4.2% in 2014.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you for all you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.

Safety
Safety Management System (SMS) training for employees is under development as part of our SMS implementation plan, and one area that will be covered in training for some employee groups is controls. SMS principles promote that, depending upon the results of the risk assessment, one or more risk controls may need to be designed and implemented. The process of selecting or designing controls needs to be approached in a structured manner. So, depending on the hazard, there may be more than one action or control applied. The hierarchy of controls from best to least effective is:
Modify the system - design the hazard out;
Use physical guards or barriers to reduce the exposure to the hazard;
Provide warnings, advisories, or signals that point out the hazard;
Implement procedural or training changes to avoid or reduce probability or severity;
Use notices, placards, or other methods to notify employees.
Even though this hierarchy exists, the most practical solution to mitigate a given risk may be one that is in the lower end of the hierarchy and that too will be covered in training.

As a reminder to anyone out there that has Windows 2003 on your personal computers, this software will expire on July 14, 2015. This basically means that there will be no further support, updates, or security patches for this system. Business application support is being discontinued, and the security risks increase dramatically as hacker attacks aimed at taking control and stealing your data or crashing your system will grow. It is time to update your system if you are still on Windows 2003.

An article in the April 17 edition of CargoFacts Update took a look at the emerging air freight market for 2015. The article reported that "at first glance, the only trends that jump out are that the big three Western European carriers are continuing to see their cargo traffic decline, and that demand growth in March was down from the combined first two months." It went on to say that "overall, the first quarter of 2015 was a very good one for air freight demand. But how much of the demand growth is attributable to underlying trends rather than to one-time gains from the problems in the US and the timing of the holiday will probably not be clear for at least another month."
The April 10 edition of CargoFacts Update reported that FedEx offered to pay 4.4 billion euros for TNT. The European headquarters of the combined companies will be in Amsterdam. TNT Airways will be divested, as required by EU law, as part of the transaction. The article went on to report in part that FedEx and TNT think this acquisition will be approved "because FedEx has a far less significant share of the European express delivery market than UPS had."
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Thank you for all you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.

The Associated Press reported on April 7 that FedEx has announced an agreement to take over its Dutch rival TNT Express for $4.8 billion U.S. dollars. FedEx said it reached this conditional agreement on an all-cash offer of eight euros per TNT share. The FedEx deal comes two years after United Parcel Service dropped a 5.2 billion-euro takeover bid citing objections by European Union regulator anti-trust concerns. The $4.8 billion price is much less than FedEx would have spent in building a similar European network on its own, said S&P Capital IQ Analyst Jim Corridore.
That’s all for this edition of the ABX Air INFOLine. Thanks for your efforts towards making ABX Air a continued success story. Take care and enjoy the goodness of spring!

In the February 9th edition of Air Cargo News the results of an on-line survey relative to the air cargo charter market indicated that almost 55% of those that responded chose "price" as their top priority in the air cargo charter market. The next two highest priorities were the need for 24-hour operations closely followed by speed of response. The survey also identified Asia as the market for greatest growth potential with Africa having the second largest growth potential. The economy was viewed as the biggest single challenge facing the air cargo industry today with 32%. It was closely followed by the challenge of achieving a sufficient yield at 29%.
In the same edition of Air Cargo News, it was reported that IATA had released its full year cargo data for 2014. It showed a 4.5% demand growth in freight ton kilometers (FTK’s) compared to 2013. It accelerated at the end of year with December showing a 4.9% increase over 2013. The vast majority of the growth in 2014 was in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions which contributed 46% and 29% respectively to the total expansion in FTK’s. Latin America reported a 4.5% decline in FTK’s for December with growth of only.1 percent for 2014 as a whole. The article also reported that air cargo business is growing again but yields remain an issue with customers focusing on a stronger value proposition.

ATSG: Air Transport Services Group held an investor conference call on Friday, March 6, 2015 to review its financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended December 31, 2014. President and Chief Executive Officer of ATSG Joe Hete said, "ATSG’s principal businesses made significant progress in 2014, as our leasing unit grew its portfolio of multi-year dry leases by 20 percent, to 24 aircraft, and our airlines turned in a strong holiday season performance to cap a successful year. In the fourth quarter, we achieved our best Adjusted EBITDA in six years, aided by full deployment of our available aircraft. Fundamental industry dynamics point toward an excellent year for air cargo companies in 2015, and we fully expect to benefit from these factors assuming these trends continue." If you missed the investor call, the webcast replay will remain available for 30 days.
AMES: AMES continues to build new outside customers within all of the business units while earning critical repeat business from exisiting prior customers. Some recent repeat business includes new commitments from Sunwing (737-800 C Checks, Winglet Mods), Omni Air (767-300 C Checks), Ameriflight (DC9 C Checks), Caribbean Airlines (737-800 & 767-300 C Checks), Blue City (767), Blue Jackets (DC9), Polaris (767) and Aviation Capital Group (737-800NG).

DHL will remain on a growth path in 2015."

A 401(k) plan is one of the most powerful tools you can use to save toward your own retirement and ensure your future security. If you don't participate, you're missing a golden opportunity to save for the future while lowering your tax burden on those savings. According to the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America, the average participation among those who are offered 401(k)s as part of their employment is relatively high, at 80%.
The ABX Human Resources Department identified the need to improve our participation rate in the ABX 401K plan. Currently only 53% of ABX employees participate. Inertia plays a key role in the lack of participation. Employees intend to sign up or increase their contribution but never do. To address this issue, effective May 15, 2015, ABX employees who do not contribute to the 401k program will be auto-enrolled with a 2% contribution. Employees may opt out between April 6 and April 30. If you have any questions about your retirement plan you can call the Fidelity Guidance Representative at 888-503-7526 or make an appointment at a Fidelity Investment Center near you.
That is all the news we have for this week. Thank you for your time and all that you do for our Company.

Safety
As we get ready for our next management meeting, the Safety Department has put together a summary and a series of slides for 2014 that it will share. In my preview of the materials I am again reminded not only about what strides have been made by Safety under its Director Steve Janasov and his team but also of all of the work of the individual departments in keeping ABX Air a safe and compliant operation. As we step up to the new FAA Safety Management System Final Rule that was published on January 8, we will have three years to have a full SMS Program up and running. We have a good start on that program already, and my thanks to all that have contributed to date and those that will do so as the process gets into full swing.
Compliance
A representative from the FAA Joint Security & Hazardous Materials Safety, Central Office recently conducted a two-day audit here in ILN this week with Bob Greene and the Ground Department. While the formal report remains in process, ABX Air was advised at the conclusion of the inspection that we were found to be in compliance, with no adverse findings. Thanks to Bob Greene and his folks for handling this and all of their fine work.

Our sister company AMES announced on February 23 that it has been granted a Class 4 Airframe Rating by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This rating gives AMES broad approval to perform maintenance on nearly all commercial aircraft that can be accommodated within its hangar facilities. "This approval reflects the high level of confidence that FAA regulatory authorities have in our operation," stated AMES President Brady Templeton. "It also provides us with the flexibility to support our rapidly growing customer base."
After almost 36 years with ABX Air, Keith Hill has decided to give up his keyboard for a golf club. Tuesday was his last day. Keith started with the company in 1979, with most of his career spent in the Sort Operation. Keith started as a Supervisor and worked his way up to the Director of Sort Operations at ILN. This will further strengthen the position of Brussels within the European and worldwide DHL network. The EUR 114 million investment in the Brussels Hub will triple capacity from 12,000 to 39,500 shipments per hour thanks to the modernization of the sorting technologies used, allowing DHL to respond to expected further growth in international express shipments. The hub will reinforce DHL’s status as a major employer in Belgium and is expected to create 200 new jobs by 2020.
In the February 20 edition of Cargo Facts, it was reported that Southern Air intends to acquire Florida West. INFOline for February 12, 2015
Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Bob Greene, Manager of Ground Operations, with the ABX Air INFOline for February 12, 2015.
Safety and Compliance
SMS Rule is Final
The industry publication Air Transport World reports that the FAA has issued a final rule for US commercial airlines that requires them to establish a Safety Management System (SMS), which uses data analysis to identify safety risks, by 2018. Both passenger and cargo airlines are required to submit an SMS implementation plan to the FAA within six months. Each airline is required to have an accountable executive to oversee its SMS. The FAA said each carrier will be allowed "to design an SMS to match the size, complexity, and business model of its organization," adding, "an SMS does not take the place of regular FAA oversight inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulations."
At a press conference on January 8 in Washington, DC at US Department of Transportation (DOT) headquarters, US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx described SMS as "predictive safety management" that uses "technology, data, and analytics" to identify potential hazards. Airlines for America (A4A) President and CEO Nicholas Calio appeared at the press conference alongside Foxx and FAA administrator Michael Huerta to give the industry’s endorsement of the rule, saying airlines had already been taking steps to implement SMS and share safety data with each other. Huerta said SMS are increasingly being used by airlines and aviation authorities around the world. "This has been adopted as a best practice through the ICAO framework," he said. "This specific FAA rule is being applied to carriers under FAA jurisdiction but the SMS approach is being widely deployed around the world."
SMS at ABX
Starting in 2013, well before the FAA issued its SMS rule in January 2015, ABX entered a voluntary FAA SMS pilot program. This pilot program allowed ABX to begin preliminary work toward developing our own SMS based on the proposed FAA SMS rule and also in keeping with the ICAO / IATA SMS standard. Our goal was two-fold: to get a head start on the multi-year SMS implementation project, which we knew would be mandatory when the FAA rule became final, and also to align ourselves with the existing IATA SMS standards and recommended practices, which are now an integral part of the IOSA audits that ABX undergoes every two years and which we will complete again this summer.
As part of the pilot program ABX established an SMS Implementation Team with representatives from Safety, Flight, Maintenance, and Ground Operations to develop the implementation plan and timeline for FAA acceptance of an ABX SMS. Also the Safety Department, with input from the implementation team, has been developing an ABX SMS Manual that will be published in the near future and will be located on web pages available to all ABX employees. And finally many employees have already received SMS training from the FAA and MITRE Corporation, with more training being developed for every employee.
Now that the FAA rule is law, we find ourselves well on our way towards understanding SMS and developing our own program--but there is still lots of work yet to do as we bring all employees into the program. Additional news concerning our SMS implementation plan will be included in the ABX INFOline as well as other management and safety publications.
Industry News
The February 6 edition of CargoFacts reported on a mixed quarter for UPS. UPS reported fourth-quarter net income down 61.2% year-over-year to $453 million, despite a 6.1% increase in revenue to $15.90 billion. Reported operating profit for the quarter was down 60.5% to $754 million. The dramatic drops in net income and operating profit were the result of a combination of two one-time charges totaling $692 million, and the impact of increased spending to avoid the service problems seen in 4Q13 when exploding e-commerce demand overwhelmed UPS and other express companies. Absent the impact of these two charges, net income for the quarter was down 1.9% year-over-year to $1.15 billion, and operating profit was down 2.9% to $1.85 billion.
In the same issue CargoFacts reported and observed that it is clear that 2014 saw solid, if unspectacular growth in air freight demand upon reviewing the IATA reports of 2014 cargo traffic being up 4.5%. The International Air Transport Association released its air freight market analysis for December and full-year 2014, showing an overall 4.9% year-over-year increase in worldwide cargo traffic for the month and 4.5% for the year. The December growth was driven by a 5.1% increase in international traffic, while domestic traffic was up 3.8%.

INFOline for January 29, 2015
Good afternoon everyone. This is John Starkovich with the ABX Air INFOline for January 29, 2015.
Safety
On January 7, 2015 the FAA announced its release of the final rule requiring safety management systems (SMS) for US air carriers. SMS is the formal, top-down, organization-wide approach to managing safety risk and assuring the effectiveness of safety risk controls. You may recall SMS being mentioned in previous INFOlines because ABX Air had been accepted into an advance preparation for the program in cooperation with the FAA. With the passage of the final rule, ABX Air will continue with its planning, building, and implementation of SMS, which is a challenging as well as a time- and labor-intensive initiative to meet the final rule’s mandate.
Compliance
ABX Air has completed its annual Management System Review. Revisions will be forthcoming to the Management Systems Manual, our Internal Audit and Evaluation Program, Safety Management System Manual, and Fatigue Risk Management Plan. A 2014 Safety Summary will be presented by the Director of Safety at the next Management Meeting and will be included in the spring edition of the ABX SafetyLine for our Flight Crews. The next compliance meeting is scheduled for February 3.

America Saves Week starts on February 23 and is a week-long event promoting good savings habits. Who doesn’t want more savings? This national campaign involves thousands of non-profit, government, and corporate groups and encourages individuals to save money to help them confidently plan for their future. Fidelity Investments is one of the groups participating in this event and will be promoting this event. Look for more information from Fidelity later in February on how you can improve your savings.
February is Healthy Heart Month. The American Heart Association recommends for all adults to get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity every week. That is just 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Brisk walking, jogging or running is one way to achieve this goal. Our wellness program, Healthy Directions, offers the fitbit tracker that can help you track your step count and other fitness activities each day. And if you average 6,000 steps a day you will receive a discount on your health insurance. The discount is available to employees who participate in the company sponsored medical insurance program. If you are not participating in the fitbit program, why don’t you consider joining the 68% of your co-workers who do participate? Contact Beth Allen in Human Resources to join.
The Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) have now been installed in the Administration Building. One is located in the second floor break room near the center of the building, and the other is located in the hallway near flight training classroom A across from the restrooms on the first floor. Both are marked with signage in the hallway. The AEDs should only be used for medical emergencies; an alarm will sound if the box is opened. We are still looking for volunteers to be trained in CPR and the use of the AEDs. Contact Tracey Dykes or Judy Branham in HR for more information. As a reminder, in the event of a medical emergency you should call 911 first and then notify security.

Company News
ATSG announced on January 15 that it has completed a new agreement that extends its support of DHL's air cargo network in the United States through at least March 2019. Principal elements of the new agreement include:
Extended dry leases through March 2019 for the 13 Boeing 767 freighters currently leased to DHL for its U.S. air network.
New dry leases of two Boeing 767 freighters through March 2019.
ABX Air's continued operation of the fifteen Boeing 767 freighters leased to DHL through March 2019.
Continued incentives for superior operating performance.
Attractive terms for DHL to broaden ATSG’s support of its global network operations.
President and CEO of ATSG Joe Hete said the agreement marks the next stage in ATSG’s more than 11-year relationship with DHL, under which ATSG provides the aircraft assets and services that support the majority of the air freight that moves through DHL’s U.S. network each day, and provides additional freighter support to DHL elsewhere in the world.
"This new agreement will give DHL continued access to efficient, reliable freighter services in the U.S. market," Hete said. "With more than half of our 45 Boeing 767 freighters deployed under multi-year dry leases producing attractive cash flow returns, additional business arising from an improving air freight environment, and growth in our maintenance services and other operations, we intend to begin returning capital to our shareholders through our share repurchase program starting in the second quarter of 2015."
That's all for this week's INFOline. Thank you for your continuing effort and dedication in making ABX Air a success.
INFOline for January 2, 2015
Good afternoon, everyone. This is John Starkovich with the ABX Air INFOline for January 2, 2015.
Safety
A few weeks ago it was announced that ABX Air was going to implement an Employee Safety Recognition Program to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to advance safety here at ABX Air. This program is now in effect. Nominations by peers, management and supervisors are to be submitted using SMS Form 114 with an interactive version on FlightWeb under the Safety Tab and on ABXnet/SafetyNet. Nominations must be submitted no later than 10 days before the end of the quarter to be considered for that quarter. Those selected as winners will receive a $50 gift card along with being appropriately recognized for their contribution.
Compliance
On 17 December, aircraft 745AX underwent a Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA) inspection at London Stansted Airport. These inspections involve 24 condition checks of the Flight Deck, 14 checks of Safety/Cabin condition, 11 checks of aircraft maintenance condition, and 3 checks concerning condition of cargo storage and dangerous goods. There were no findings noted during this inspection. Thanks to all who contributed to keeping ABX Air compliant in these areas.
Part of our Safety Management Implementation includes a formal Corrective Action Process that enables corrective actions to be maintained in a searchable database. During last quarter's IOSA auditor training, the compliance managers began working with a Corrective Action Process for major audit findings that uses an interactive form recommended by GHS Aviation Group. This process and form will be implemented in the next revision of our Internal Audit and Evaluation Program. The Internal Audit and Evaluation Program schedule for 2015 has been submitted and approved for implementation.
Company News
Our on-time service performance for DHL for the month of December, subject to verification, is 99.05%. Similarly, for the fourth quarter of 2014, we ended at 98.69% on-time performance, all subject to verification.
AMES recently completed an initiative geared to build upon its capability and expertise in the MRO business. SunWing Airlines selected AMES as the modification facility to install a split scimitar winglet on their B737-800. This was the first time that AMES had installed a split scimitar winglet. As part of this project and the historic event, cameras were installed in Hangar 1004 to document the work with time-lapse photography. On December 22, AMES announced that the work was timely completed and that SunWing was extremely pleased with the results. ABX Air extends its congratulations to everyone at AMES for this project and AMES’ significant growth throughout 2014.
In a similar vein, please accept my personal thanks and appreciation to everyone for an extremely good peak season. Like last year, we again had all aircraft fully deployed during peak, including three to Europe, and performed at a high level of reliability. In an earlier email sent to the daily operations group last week, Joe Hete observed the following: "All, this was a very solid peak season for ABX, one of the best in recent memory. You are all to be commended for a job well done." Congratulations to everyone and thank you.
Other News
A December 24, 2014 article from aircargonews reported that Bombardier and Aeronautical Engineers Inc (AEI) have secured the first passenger-to-freighter conversion order for the CRJ200 SF (Special Freighter) aircraft. Canada-based plane maker Bombardier Commercial Aircraft said that an entity owned by? the IFL Group of Waterford, Michigan, has signed a firm purchase agreement to acquire the first CRJ200 SF, with 6.7 tonnes main deck payload. After conversion, the jet will join IFL Group’s fleet carrying cargo in North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean.
In another article out of aircargonews on December 17, 2014 writer Peter Conway interviewed Christian Ureta, CEO of LAN Cargo and TAM Cargo, about the shift to belly capacity resulting in freighters having a new role at LAN Cargo following its merger with Brazilian carrier TAM. For 2015, the carrier will deploy eight 767Fs and four 777Fs, a 20 percent reduction from 2013. When the Chilean carrier merged with Brazilian upstart TAM in June 2012, it suddenly had new belly capacity. In particular, TAM belly capacity to the Florida hub, as well as to New York and Orlando, meant that fewer freighters were needed for this route. In general, Ureta describes the new belly cargo network as "maybe the most important strategic advantage our group has right now".
The above two articles illustrate how the markets continue to evolve and change. In such an environment, it is a reminder that if a business stands still, it is actually losing ground. ABX Air must continue to evolve and improve efficiencies to remain competitively successful.
That is all for this week’s INFOline. Please kindly accept best wishes from myself and the entire executive staff for a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year to everyone. Thank you for all you do to make ABX Air a success. Take care.
